Christopher Dodge Smith, 40, allegedly followed his girlfriend Jessica Antolini, 30, to a bar and shot her in cold blood while his five-year-old daughter watched the tragic events unfold from the car.

The incident took place in Safety Harbor, Florida, on October 13, with witnesses telling police that Smith was acting “extremely strangely” and looked like he was “possessed.” The shooting took place around 9:00 pm local time.

When Smith tracked down his girlfriend, the two got into an argument with Antolini following him to the parking lot where the shooting took place, according to PEOPLE.

Smith reportedly flipped like a switch, pulling out a handgun and shooting Antolini in the face, with the bullet going through her left eye and coming out of the back of her skull. Antolini was rushed to a nearby hospital and was declared dead.

Smith fled the scene with his daughter and dog also in the car. When trying to make a quick getaway, he allegedly ran over Antolini’s body.

According to the affidavit, Smith called his mother and confessed to her, saying he “messed up” and “shot Jess.”

When the police spoke to his young daughter, just five years old, she confirmed what Smith had said with the little girl telling police: “Daddy shot Jess.” She made this statement on multiple occasions when speaking to the police.

Multiple witnesses called 911 reporting the shooting, providing details about Smith’s car, which led to his arrest, which the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office addressed in a press release.

“Deputies located the vehicle, attempted to stop it, and when Christopher did not pull over, the vehicle was immobilized,” the department said.

Smith is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse and is currently being held without bond in the Pinellas County Jail.
